When it comes to your roof, it’s important to know what can damage it.

Roof replacement in Edmonton is the last thing that most homeowners want to need, but there are many things that can damage your roof. Knowing what can cause damage is the first step to preventing it, and in our last blog, our expert roofers went over several of the most common threats to your roof. Here are a few more roofing threats to watch out for:

#4. Tree Limbs

Are there any trees that hang over your roof? If so, snow, ice or wind could cause a limb to break off and fall on your roof. If the tree is dying or sick, it could also lead to falling limbs. Make sure that your trim any threatening limbs away from your home.

#5. Hail

If you have an asphalt roof, there is a mineral coating that covers and protects each shingle. Hail damages this coating, leaving behind bare spots that make your roof vulnerable to moisture and UV rays. After a hail storm, visually inspect your roof for any signs of damage.

#6. Worn or Cracked Roof Flashing

Roof flashings are necessary for keeping water out of your roof, and they are located around the chimney, vents and the edge of the roof. Over time, the roof flashings can become damaged or cracked, which allows water to seep into the roof, leading to leaks and rot. Check for dried out, cracked or loose roof flashings on a regular basis.
