In Edmonton, especially right now, you are experiencing a period of the “Boom Bust” Alberta economy that brings a lot of the oil economy out of the patch and into the “temporary” job market. So you have more options than ever in regards to selecting a roofing contractor.

Now can be a GREAT time to save some money, since there are a lot of handy guys looking for work and Roofing is a common “Side job” for the spring break oil worker. There are a lot of guys out there who know at least the basics.

That being said, you might feel comfortable with these guys doing the work on your home. That is fine, we know what makes us a cut above the rest in the roofing industry, but if we can be of any assistance we will be!

The next thing you need to know once you have determined that you need to replace your shingles, and found a roofer to put on the shingles, you need to know what shingles to put on your roof!

We have been certified by a number of manufacturers. This means that manufactures feel a little extra comfortable with us representing their product, as well as they have offered us the training and education to do so effectively. They also reward the effort it takes to become certified, with longer warranties and referrals!

We at Sargeant’s Roofing know that one of the biggest factors in the success of a company, is the corporate culture.

Learn More about Hiring Roofing Contractors.

The culture at Malarkey has a small town, “family business” feel in their dedication to the client, the customer, and the contractor. Their policies and standards seem to the be thought it with making a new roof a positive transaction for everyone involved. They work well with out distributors, who we buy the shingles from. They support us in every way with a good certification system and educational support. They also make sure that we can take care of the customer with a good product and warranty.

We find that this smaller company atmosphere aims to specialize, and serve the customer who only wants the best product, not always the cheapest. This enables them to set certain processes in place, where they take care of the little things.

Something we say at Sargeant’s is;

“If you take care of the little things, the big things take care of themselves!”

Evidence of this is found every where in the culture @ Malarkey!

Further, the Shingles themselves have a number of excellent features that make them both customer, and contractor obsessed. They know that in order for a customer to have the best experience and quality shingle, they need to make it easy for the contractor to install it. As roofers, we know hard work, and anything that makes our day just a little bit better, will certainly result in a more consistent product.

We are not saying that a poorly made product results in a poorly installation, but it certainly doesn’t help matters! Or make it faster!

Malarkey makes bundles that have a few less shingles, which means lighter bundles, so our labourers can work faster.

They also pioneered “The Zone” which makes it easier for us to make sure the nail is placed in the perfect location, every time. This results in less high nailing, which causes pooling and premature wear of your shingles, and decreases the chances of leaks!

The tapered Backing shim also works hand in hand with this element to assist in proper easy water flow and ease of install! Not to mention a great resistance to high wind.

(not to mention Sargeant’s Roofing has always installed with 6 nails even before they began rewarding 6-nailers with a high wind warranty!)

In addition to making things easier for the contractor, they also just make a high quality product! 3M is one of the most innovative companies in the world! Click here to know more!

Malarkey has partnered with 3m to enhance their shingles with a high quality algae resistant coating that will make your roof last longer, stay waterproof longer, and look better!

But one of the best factors to consider is that Malarkey Shingles pay for themselves.

They are one of the only shingle makers that offer an asphalt shingle with a class 4 rating.

What does a class 4 shingle rating mean? Click here for a great PDF!

To make a long story short, Class 4 means that in testing they drop a 2″ steel ball, from 20 feet high, reaching a velocity of 70/mph on the shingle and observe no lasting damage to the shingle that might negatively effect water resistance and shingle life.

Does this mean Malarkey is hail proof? NO!

Not at all.

However, do Wawanesa and State Farm offer reduced rates for a class 4 roofing system being installed on your house?

You bet!!

This in my eyes is one of the best compliments that can be paid to Malarkey brand shingles.

That in a nutshell, is a great list of reasons you should pick Malarkey for your next roof, regardless of who you choose to install them.

Now would we suggest getting a manufacturer certified roofer to install them? Obviously we would say yes, and we will elaborate more on the benefits of using manufacturer certified roofing companies in a later post.

In the meantime, please share with us your questions about roof shingles, so we can improve these posts for you!
